God is Cool!

What does it mean to be “cool”? Cool is one slang word that’s still used today. During its origin back in the 1960s, some other phrases meant about the same thing. Groovy, right on and far out are pretty much out of date now, but cool has withstood the test of time.

When I was in high school, being cool meant that you dressed in style, had respectable friends and never said anything ridiculous. In other words, you weren’t a nerd.

I use the word cool to describe everything from cars to movies. It’s a reliable way to reveal how much we like something. If I say something is cool, that means it’s extraordinary — at the top of my A-list.

Go, God!
Well, you know what? God is cool! In fact, He’s so cool that there aren’t enough words to describe Him! I know He’s an awesome being to be feared and worshiped. His wrath can be a terrible thing. (Just skim the Old Testament.) His power is infinite, and we are always to honor Him in reverence. But when you get right down to it, He’s also really cool. Who else could create a giraffe? What was He thinking when He made an aardvark? You can’t look at a pig and tell me that God has no sense of humor.

How about humans? Just the other day I was strolling through the mall, and I had a great opportunity to see the Lord’s idea of variety. There were more flavors than you’d find at Baskin-Robbins! Tall, short, wide, thin — people of all different colors and races.

God’s Creativity
Snow is created by God, too. Who else could have thought of something you can ski on one day and drink the next? And how about water? We get to swim and splash around and jump off diving boards without breaking any bones!

Let’s move on to food. One of my favorites is a watermelon — an event in itself. You put your whole face into it as the sweet juice runs down your neck, and then you get to spit out the seeds! Avocados are creative, too. They have their own little traveling case, and they taste great in guacamole.

How about falling in love? Now there’s a concept! A boy and a girl get together, and WOW — tingles and heartbeats, sweaty palms, flowers, cards, walks in the moonlight and holding hands. Super cool idea!

God is not boring. He’s into excitement. Read the Bible, and you’ll find more happenings than Star Wars, Titanic and The Wizard of Oz put together! There are seas being split, water turning to wine, days being extended, blind guys seeing, dead men rising, and if that’s not enough for you, just check out the book of Revelation!

On a personal level, God is cool because He listens to our prayers and doesn’t laugh. He understands what it’s like to be human. He can relate to being made fun of or biting your tongue while eating lunch. He feels for us when we have pimples or drop salsa on our clean, white shirt. Why else would God write a book on how to live if He didn’t understand how we operate? The Bible covers everything from depression to how to handle our finances.

Isn’t it amazing that the Creator of the universe would desire a personal relationship with each of us? It’s mind-boggling to comprehend why He would even care!

Maybe this is why I love Him so much. He makes me feel special even though I’m a little speck on this big planet. He makes me feel like “I’m the one.”

Thanks, God, for being so cool!

Some Things to Think About
• Name some aspects about God that have special meaning for you.

• Think of some ways that you can thank God for His creativity.

This is last weeks:

Sal-va-tion, sounds like a big word, right? Well don't panic because all it means is to be saved. For example, when a lifeguard dives into a pool to save a drowning little boy, that boy has salvation from the lifeguard. I have some very good news for you. The person who created everything, and I mean everything from the bacteria on the lint in-between you toes to the lips of that really hott guy or girl you've been watching, he (God) wants to offer you salvation, or to save you. How many people do you know who would let themselves be tortured to death just so you would live? I personally know someone who did, and that someone is Jesus Christ. He died in the ultimate form of cruelty and punishment, dying on the cross, just so you could live. That's right, YOU, even if you were the only person left in the entire world he still would have given up his life just to save you. Of course he couldn't just die, I mean, he is God, so he rose from the dead three days later. So how does Jesus dying save me? I'm glad you asked. You see, everybody had done something wrong in their life and we call that something sin. Whether you've lied, cussed, stolen, looked at porn, been rude to your parents, had sex with your boyfriend or girlfriend, yelled at your friends or cheated on a test, you've sinned. That means your not perfect, right? And if God is perfect surely you can't possibly expect him to allow you into his perfect house, heaven, now can you? God gave us another chance to become new and clean again, and he gave us his perfect son, his only son, to die so we wouldn't have to. We won't have to die if we are Christians, We will live eternally in heaven. Think about it, everyone will live forever, but in one of two places. You could end up in paradise (that's heaven) which is wonderful beyond comprehension, the human mind cannot even begin to imagine how totally awesome it will be. Or you could end up in everlasting torture (hell), where you will be in unbearable pain, where you want to die but just can't, for ever and ever and ever and ever. Not much of a choice, is it? So if you want to make that step and live in paradise instead of pain, pray the following prayer:

      Dear Jesus,

I believe you died on the cross for my sins and rose from the dead three days later.

I also realize I've done a lot wrong in my life and so now I want to fix that and start all over again. Will you please forgive me for all my sins and make me clean?

I want you to come into my heart and become my personal Lord and Savior.

I will start to read the Bible and live for you. Thank you so much Jesus for saving me!

                                                Amen

Congratulations! You are now a child of God. You can start your relationship with him by reading some of the following scriptures; also be sure to join a church right away! You may want to even memorize these verses:

  •     John 3:16
  •    Romans 10:9-13
  •        Romans 3:23
  •     Matthew 24:13

Look in the index of your Bible if you need help finding them. Stay tuned until next week!
